Harry Potter Party

Start with a Helium balloon and  draw simple owl on it.
I would suggest buying a disposable helium tank at Walmart for 21.00
as balloons at Party City are 1.50 each.
You will need the tank later for a game we are playing called
"Dementors Alley"
I ordered these 9 x 6 envelopes from amazon.com
I got 25 of them. I found a Hogwarts crest as a PDF and
downloaded it to my computer.
Then using a word 9 x 6 envelope template
I clicked on the picture set text wrapping to be behind text
recolored the crest to washout
 centered it on the page.
For the font I used "Harry Potter" font which you can
download for free at fontspace.com
There are 3 fonts that you need.
http://www.fontspace.com/fontomen/harry-potter
http://www.fontspace.com/fontmesa/magic-school
http://www.fontspace.com/fz/harrypotter7

For the invitations I used the same crest that I downloaded for the
envelopes to make everything look uniform.
Then I set the page lay out to be portrait.
fit 2 invites on each sheet.
Put the wording on the page
I also bought a large pack of  paper 100 sheets for cardstock paper at
office max for $12.97. It is Parchment paper but not marked that way in the card stock paper area.

For the glasses die cut I used the Every Day Paper Dolls dress up Cricut cartridge
And from a bathing suit icon under Accessories 1 I found a pair of glasses.
I set them to 8" to cut
For the Owl die cut I used Halloween Chic Cartridge set to 2 1/2 inches
The red and brown paper is sold in a paper pack Micheal's.

I found an "H" stamp at Michaels for 4.99 in the wedding aisle
The red wax is also 4.99 but I already had it.
I bought the stamp with a 40% off coupon so it was about 3.00.
The tickets below were too complicated to explain  how I made this design so the free download is below.

Beer Butter recipe

Harry Potter Butterbeer Recipe #5

This is my own recipe, modified from another I found online.  The original called for root beer (root beer?? There's not even a hint of root bear flavor in the Harry Potter butterbeer!).
Ingredients:
1 quart butter brickle or vanilla ice cream
1/4 cup butterscotch syrup
32 oz of your favorite cream soda
Directions:
1. Place 4 (16-ounce) glasses in freezer and chill for at least 20 minutes
2. Mix ice cream and cream soda in a blender until combined
3. Divide between the frosted glasses
4. Top each glass with whipped cream, if desired
5. Serve with spoons and straws

Harry Potter Butterbeer Recipe #4

This one's from the Food Network.  This one is served warm according to the recipe, but you could just as easily chill or freeze the drink before serving.
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup butterscotch topping
  • 2 tablespoons whipped butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla cream soda
Directions
Combine condensed milk, butterscotch topping, and butter in a glass heatproof measuring cup. Heat in microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir until butter has melted and incorporated into mixture. Meanwhile heat cream soda in another heatproof measuring cup for 1 minute 30 seconds.
Divide butterscotch mixture between 2 (10 to 12-ounce) mugs. Fill mugs with heated cream soda and stir thoroughly. Serve garnished with an old-fashioned butterscotch candy stick.

Harry Potter Butterbeer Recipe #3

I found this one on e-How.  Again, hot and again, you could freeze or cool before serving.  I liked how this one used butterscotch chips and the coffee creamer.  Adds a real different dimension that still stays on track with the Harry Potter theme park version.
Ingredients
  • 10 OZ of Cream Soda (1 & 1/4 cups)
  • 1 Tbsp of Salted REAL Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Butterscotch chips
  • 1/4 Cup Original Coffee Mate Liquid Creamer
Directions
Put the Butterscotch Chips and Butter in a microwave safe bowl. Heat for 30 seconds. Stir and Heat for another 30 seconds.  Now add your Creamer to the bowl.
Microwave in 30 Second increments again. Stirring each time.   It usually takes about 4 times (2 minutes) to get the right consistency.  Set your mixture aside.  The chips and butter should be a thick stir-able paste.
Heat Cream soda in the microwave for 90 seconds.  BE VERY CAREFUL!   Microwaves times vary.  Make sure not to over heat the Cream Soda or all of the fizz will be gone.
Pour Butterscotch mixture into heated Cream Soda.
Stir & Serve!

Sorting Hat I bought on Amazon for 11.00 free shipping
I downloaded all the crests on printed out 2 sheets of each house crest.
The kids sat on a stool and dug out of a bag to find out what
school they were in.  We then pinned the crest onto their shirt for games.

Game 1
Broom Relay Race
We had a broom relay  race were the 2 kids of 2 teams raced
by flying the broom from one side and past to another team member
on the other side until all team members had ridden and past the broom.

Mini Brooms were 1.00 each at the thrift store

Game 2
 "Expecto Petronis"
The kids three 3 different sized balls at balloons.  If they
hit one their team got a point.
Balloons are 1.00 from the dollar store...they are 1.50 or more at
Party City for Latex only.
I wanted to dress the balloons with black plastic bags but
it weighed them down too much...ah well.

Game 3
"Quiddich"

A sitting version of Quiddich
The kids passed a ball around and for a timed minute.
What ever team was holding the ball when the minute was up
got the point.  In the middle of the minute count down we added a  golden snitch
which was a Ferraro Rocher chocolate.  If they were holding it when the minute was up,they got to eat it.
We played 8 rounds of this game.
